Laurea Hyvinkää initiated collaboration with the Xiamen University by entering into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Software School of the Xiamen University, P.R.China in Spring 2010. The Signatories of the MoU declared their common intention to enhance exchange of students and faculty members, research cooperation, and development of joint projects as part of the China-Holland Educational Competence and Knowledge Center on IT (CHECK-IT Center) activities. At first, the possible subject areas of collaboration include, but are not limited to, Marketing and Project and/or Business Managementand ICT related fields in particular. A delegation consisting of Laurea Hyvinkää faculty and staff members visited the CHECK-IT Center in Autumn 2010 and now the first group of students followed by their supervisors are based in Xiamen. This blog is a story of their everyday life, studying and participating in the R&D&I projects including in China in Spring 2011.

Experience for life

I can’t believe that time has passed so quickly. We just got here! But still, these my last three hole days here. I’m feeling sad..

Last week we had our projects done and had the presentations. They went good and customers were pleased. It was the first half year in Laurea of my three and half year study. Jee! It felt good and we did go out with girls to eat one last time in the BBQ place.

Other students continued their work while we are taking a vocation. They did finish their works, and now we had a nice, formal graduation party. Dress code was as formal as you could and there were all important managers and leaders with us. We were the first Finnish group to graduate from Check-IT and fourth in general with the Dutch boys. We had these really elegant report cards and our first project group was awarded with “The best marketing plan”. I could say that we did do a good job. And that is good evidence to show to our teacher in Finland, that we did do something.

Peking

We started our trip to Beijing on time. The flight went well and we had good time. This trip I’m doing with someone special, not with other students. :P

Greetings from Shanghai!

Yes, now we have seen Shanghai. It was really like a big city, not so ”Chinese” if I can say that.. We had a nice, really quick visit there.

Hello, long time no hear!

I’ve been so busy that I haven’t have the time to write.. But now I do!

So, we had a nice trip this one Saturday. We went to an island and saw a great temple and the whole island. We went there by a boat, full of Chinese people. And when we got to the island, our group leader, this woman, took her flag and microphone and started leading the group. But, of course  we also had our group hat’s! We looked just like a Chinese tourist group taking pictures of everything.. x) It was nice and we had fun. After the island trip, we went by buss to a hill in heights. There was a martial arts temple! And we saw little boys doing their practice and jumping up and down. It was cool and the Chinese children are so cute. That was an interesting trip. :)

Hello again!

Now we have been here for  2 weeks, only 10 left. Time goes by so quickly! But, we just had the most different weekend ever.

On Friday, we went for a dinner to BBQ restaurant. We were “celebrating” our teacher, who was with us for the last day. He went home to Finland on Saturday.  But the food.. we took the hungry people choice; 79 juan and we can eat as much as we can and want in 90 minutes! Go Finnish, we eat that money like three times back. x) (And the 79 juan is approximately 8 €) We went to the table where all the raw meat, vegetables and fruits were. Our plates were so full!

Now we’ve been in here for a week. It feels like eternity although we came just a couple of days ago. I think we can call this place our home for the next 3 months.

We were very lucky to get our apartments at the 29th and 30th floor; the view is awesome! We have started our projects now  and planning is going on.  Our plan is to start serious work on next Monday morning.
